Recommended departure time is early in the morning. Wind can pick up after noon, and if we are doing it near summer you can get a lot of sun exposure coming back to Palma.

We will start by taking the route out of the city to Esporles, a nice little town at the foot of the Sierra. From there we'll find a steep segment necessary to go across and get our first spectacular views of the northern  coast.

We will follow the MA-10 road heading west, passing by Richard Branson's new hotel and we'll descend into the town of Banyalbufar. From there, there is 7 kilometers of rolling roads to Estellencs, our first option for a coffee stop in a terrace overlooking the ocean.

A steep climb will take us out of town and we will continue to ascend to the top of Coll de Es Grau. After this point we will slide down a beautiful descend with open views of the ocean and pass the rock tunnels of the pictures.

From this point the road turns straight south towards Andratx. There will be a rather unexpected climb to Sa Gramola but trust us, it is worth it. We will then get a long and soft descent without much traffic or sharp curves.

Andrtx offers a different options to refuel with a nice coffee and maybe a bocadillo de Jamón (Ham baguette). You may need this as we will continue the climbing towards Es Capdellá. This bit offers great riding through inland farms and wineyards.

Passed the small town we'll descend into Calvià, but if you're still feeling strong there is a variant of going up Puig de Galilea, a hard climb offering really nice views from the top.

Staying on the Calvià route, we will be blessed with a good road with hardly any traffic, as the most common route for cars is through the coastal highway. A soft but long ascent will take us to the top of Coll de Sa Creu, from where we will descend straight into Palma's Santa Catalina area.
